With ESPN expanding, Boston.com launches newly designed sports section

The Boston online media competition continues to heighten. "Boston.com launched a newly designed sports section as ESPN focuses on several local sports sites in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Dallas," Editor and Publisher writes, adding that, "The revamped sports area includes the ‘Globe Sports Wire,’ a feature that collects the latest updates from the newsroom and a new timeline for the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins games featuring past and present information. Users also can search and sort information by sports teams." E&P also reports that Boston.com has hired Matt Pepin as sports editor overseeing the site from Varsity845.com and The Times Herald-Record in Middletown, N.Y. Overseeing the redesign: Boston Globe Sports Editor Joe Sullivan.
