University of Miami wasn’t thrilled with ESPN 30 for 30 documentary concept — at least not at first

Director Billy Corben believes University of Miami football fans will be pleased with The U, the two-hour documentatary that will air December 12 as part of ESPN’s 30 for 30 series. Apparently, the university isn’t quite as sure. Or at least, it wasn’t at first. Although the university will hold a screening for the project on December 10, Corben — a former UM student – says school officials refused to participate and "would not allow the filmmakers to interview coach Randy Shannon, former athletic director Paul Dee or former president Tad Foote," Barry Jackson writes. "It upset me to no end," Corben says. "I felt disrespected and unappreciated by my alma mater. Early on, [UM athletic department spokesman] Mark Pray told me, `You should rethink even doing this project.’"
