NBC’s Michaels tries to ‘stay placid’ in preparations for broadcasting eighth Super Bowl
Sports Television columnist Michael Hiestand writes, “Al Michaels, about to call his eighth Super Bowl, on how he’ll prep this week: ‘You try to stay placid.’
And Michaels, 67, figures he might as well enjoy himself. ‘The greatest advice I got was from (broadcaster) Curt Gowdy, who I maybe admired more than anybody, was to relish the moment — don’t get jaded. I know what to expect, to see where the game takes you.’
He says his preparation won’t change much just because it’s for a broadcast where 30 seconds of air time for ads goes for about $3.5 million. ‘It’s like you always hear players say, ‘You’ve got to do what got you here in the first place.’ And the older you get, it’s like with players — you savor it.’”
