"Brian Guilbeau, a sportswriter and columnist for the American Press newspaper in Lake Charles, La., died Friday from complications of cystic fibrosis," the Associated Press writes. He was 38. Guilbeau, the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s 2005 Columnist the Year, covered high school and McNeese State University sports for the American Press. The AP adds that Guilbeau was a native of Lafayette and joined the American Press staff in 1998 from The Daily Iberian in New Iberia.
