IOC in no hurry to accept U.S. bids for media rights to 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games

"The International Olympic Committee remains noncommittal about the date when it will accept U.S. bids for media rights to the 2014 and 2016 Olympic Games," Tripp Mickle and John Ourand write, adding, "The organization’s top media executive recently outlined how the package would look, and stressed that production and presentation of the Games is just as important as a rights fee. As in past years, the IOC will go to market with what it calls a ‘Gatekeeper’s Package,’ which lumps all media rights from television to broadband to mobile in a single package. Typically, that means every media right that exists currently or in the future. Mickle and Ourand quote IOC executive board member Richard Carrión: “We’re in no hurry. We can wait until the environment appears to be on a steadier course, until some of the developments we see taking place in the media world are clear.” || IOC comfortable with NBC’s tape-delay approach.
