ESPN/ABC President George Bodenheimer: “The game is still the meal”

"Unpredictability is the human quality that makes for compelling sports theater, but a critical 2020 story line will be how we watch and perhaps how much," Harvey Araton writes. "That crystal ball we used to gaze into when forecasting sports? It is so 20th century without technological upgrades, with as many applications as the mind can muster." In a comprehensive analysis of how we will watch sports in the next 10 years, Araton quotes ESPN and ABC President George Bodenheimer as saying, “I don’t think there’s much question that younger fans are consuming sports in different ways. They want to access information where and when they want it. But all of these other apps are the hors d’oeuvres, and the game is still the meal."
