Broadcasting legend Dick Enberg to speak at IU following performances of his play on October 23
Enberg, who has broadcast every major sporting event in an illustrious career spanning four decades, will appear at Ruth N. Halls Theatre on October 23 at 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. He will speak after each performance of his play, “Coach, The Untold Story of Basketball Legend Al McGuire.” McGuire is the legendary former coach at Marquette University who later worked as a TV analyst alongside Enberg.
“He was the most incredible person I've ever known,” Enberg said of McGuire in a trailer for the play. “I didn't like him at all at first, but I learned he was impossible not to love. Coach was the most unforgettable character I've ever met. There's no one in second place.”
Enberg attended graduate school at IU, earning master's and doctorate degrees in health sciences. Enberg’s visit to IU is being hosted by the IU School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
He is currently the play-by-play voice of the San Diego Padres and calls tennis for CBS and ESPN.
He is a 13-time Emmy Winner, a three-time National Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association and was inducted into the IU Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.
